Jefferson was probably against slavery - ...Helena,

Jefferson was probably against slavery - but he owned slaves. One of those crazy contradictions in our country...

Our country had slavery and we committed genocide in its first 100 years even as we created a country with the most freedom and liberty ever to grace this good earth.

Strange...tempe turleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00906350838729139212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5939543443166847471.post-25686593366502447112010-04-11T07:06:29.089-07:002010-04-11T07:06:29.089-07:00I thought Jefferson was against slavery. In fact,...I thought Jefferson was against slavery. In fact, I thought he wanted it in the original constitution but had to leave it out so that the southern reps would sign the thing.

I had to read those last points a few times before I understood what was being said there. (Yes, it was financial so I just pretty much skimmed over it.) And, once again Scott, you got me! It made sense! You hooked me with the history and then reeled me in by saying "read that again." Well done. I agree, we need a Jefferson.

I recall an Ensign article about a couple that started a type of banking system in their little community. It was based entirely on your personal integrity instead of your credit history, personal worth, etc. It was a handshake type of deal with no interest attached, I believe. Anyway, it changed their little end of the world and people started to become self-reliant once they had a little help. That sounds Jeffersonian to me... less power in the hands of the bank, more power to the person in need. Good politics.Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17889554974006623288noreply@blogger.com
